A Weekend with Peter Sterios
WORKSHOP and MASTER CLASS DESCRIPTION - November 13-15, 2015
GRAVITY & GRACE: Tools to Rewire the Subtle Body with Peter Sterios
Cultivating our minds for refined levels of attention and focus is a natural by-product of yoga. It starts with the understanding of the many “minds” our bodies possess - the mind in our brain, the mind in our spine, the mind in our heart, and the mind in our gut, to name a few. Magically, each yoga pose has been developed to encourage greater awareness in these “seats” of mind, through motion and exercises designed to build flexibility, strength , and stillness.
In this unique workshop, three Principles of Practice will be explored to strengthen different parts of your mind for building more intelligence into your practice. Each of these principles - Back Body Breathing; Spine Mechanics; and Fundamentals of Flow will be discussed and demonstrated, followed by practices to incorporate them into movement.
Friday, NOV. 13, 6-8 pm
“Intuition & Balance - Real-time Right Brain Consciousness” - An Introductory lecture followed by a practice of preparatory Opening exercises. Class for all levels.
Saturday, NOV. 14, 9-11 am
“Applying the Intuitive in your Practice” - This class will be a 3-part, asana practice, guided in a unique way to help uncover how the intuitive works in your poses, and your movement. Class for all levels.
Saturday, NOV. 14, 1-3 pm
“Longevity vs. Fitness - Seeking Balance Mentally & Physically” - This class will be part lecture, part practice and will provide instruction and experience for safely integrating dynamic practices with restorative practices, using a variety of basic poses with new understanding. Class for all levels.
Sunday, NOV. 15, 9-1:00 pm
Master Class (4 hrs)
“SPINE MECHANICS - Essential Anatomy and Functional Misconceptions” - This class is designed for teachers and intermediate practitioners, and will show you practical applications of how to incorporate this Principle into any style of practice or teaching. Instruction in the class will give you a better understanding of the spine’s intricate system of physical and subtle body anatomy, and show how to create healthier movement, wider range of motion, flexibility and strength.
Common movements, instructional cues, and anatomical function of the spine, will be demonstrated and discussed, highlighting many misconceptions about the spine. Teacher adjustments for the spine using a variety of body types, will also be shown and practiced.
The class will be part lecture, part practice, and satisfies Yoga Alliance CE requirements for 1) Techniques, Training and Practice; 2) Teaching Methodology; 3) Anatomy and Physiology; or 4) Electives.
