Ashtanga Yoga is an elegant asana system as taught by the late Sri K. Pattabhi Jois in Mysore, India. The practice consists of six series that progress in complexity and intensity, and every practitioner starts by a gradual building of the Primary Series, also known as Yoga Chikitsa or Yoga Therapy. Consistent practice over time removes energy blockages from the body that leads to greater freedom of the body, mind and spirit. As opposed to a teacher guided classes commonly seen in today's yoga classes, a Mysore class is taught in a group setting where students have a self-paced practice with individual instruction from the teacher. Because the instruction in a Mysore class is highly customizable, Ashtanga Yoga in Austin is an effective system for both new students and seasoned practitioners alike. Contrary to popular belief, students do not have to already know the sequence or have an advanced asana practice to benefit from a Mysore class. In addition, it is an ideal setting for those with injury and issues requiring special attention to practice safely.

The term "Anusara (a-nu-sar-a), means 'flowing with Grace,' 'flowing with Nature' and 'following your heart." Anusara Yoga is a unique method of hatha yoga that integrates biomechanical principles of alignment with the celebration of the heart and spirit. Anusara Yoga classes are fun, inspiring and dedicated to helping people experience and delight in the many facets of yoga practice. Students who regularly practice Anusara Yoga report increased strength, flexibility and a deeper understanding of how to advance in the asana practice.
